Technopreneurship is entrepreneurship where technology is the product or the core of the business model. Nithin Kamath did not invent stockbroking when he started Zerodha in 2010; he used software to cut brokerage to zero on delivery trades and grew into one of India’s largest brokers (Groww has since overtaken it on active clients, using the same playbook). That is the pattern: a technology that makes something cheaper, faster or possible for the first time.

12 Types of Technopreneurship
1. Fintech
Payments, lending, investing and insurance delivered through software. UPI, launched in 2016, now handles more than 20 billion transactions a month, and companies like PhonePe, Razorpay and Zerodha built businesses on top of it.
2. Software as a Service (SaaS)
Business software sold by subscription over the internet. Zoho (Chennai) and Freshworks, which listed on Nasdaq in 2021, sell to customers worldwide from India.
3. E-commerce and Quick Commerce
Selling goods online. Flipkart was bought by Walmart for $16 billion in 2018; Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart now deliver groceries in 10 to 15 minutes.
4. Artificial Intelligence

5. HealthTech
Online consultations, diagnostics, pharmacy and hospital software. Practo and Tata 1mg are well-known examples.
6. EdTech
Online learning and test preparation. The sector boomed during the pandemic and then shrank sharply; BYJU’s, once valued at $22 billion, went into insolvency proceedings in 2024, a reminder that growth funded by heavy spending is fragile.
7. AgriTech
Technology for farmers and food supply chains: input marketplaces, farm advice, cold chains and direct sale to buyers. DeHaat and Ninjacart are examples.
8. CleanTech and Electric Mobility
Electric vehicles, batteries, solar and energy efficiency. Ather Energy and Ola Electric make electric scooters; both listed on Indian exchanges.
9. SpaceTech
